An Example of Local Ingredient Sourcing: Borage Oil

Beautiful Borage Flower

Borage oil (borago officinalis seed oil) is found in several of Cosmydor's formulas, including C/1 Regenerative Cream with Borage Vegetable Oil & Marjoram Essential Oil, C/5 Anti-Wrinkle Cream with Prickly Pear Vegetable Oil & Ho Wood Essential Oil, hand & face cream E/2 Essential Care Tonka, as well as in the Botanical Regenerating Face Cleanser with Ylang-Ylang.

Naturally rich in vitamins A and E, and Omegas 3 and 5, borage is recommended for dry skin, itching, and skin disorders with inflammation, due to the high proportion of gamma-linolenic acid, as a gamma linolenic acid deficiency can result in itching and dry skin. It has a positive effect on the barrier function of the epidermis. It improves skin appearance, primarily for a dry and scaly skin.

All of Cosmydor’s supplies come from the farm of Daniel Rouillard, based in Vicq Exemplet (a village of 350 inhabitants located halfway between Châteauroux and Montluçon), less than 100km from our laboratory.

Established more than 30 years ago on the family farm, he specialises in the production of only four seeds: evening primrose, borage, camelina and flax. He provides on-site cold pressing for the extraction of virgin oils, on demand, insuring supply of ultra-fresh oils.

With 8 to 10 hectares depending on the year, his borage field is the largest in France. Of course, he does not use herbicides, pesticides or GMOs. Borage being a very melliferous plant, three beekeepers place beehives in his fields.

Cosmydor considers it an absolute priority to promote this type of local, artisanal and ultra-high quality ingredient sourcing. On the one hand, it allows for a deepening of the brand's sustainable values. On the other hand, it is the only way to obtain an optimal efficiency of natural ingredients for the care of the skin: the potential of the plant is not altered at any time between the sowing of the seed and the manufacture of your beauty product.
