FAQ

INFORMATION ABOUT OUR COSMETICS

Are all Cosmydor cosmetics for daytime use?

The difference between day and night creams is usually just a question of texture. We prefer to let you choose: Cosmydor creams can be used either during the day or at night.

We would also like to point out that the texture of our products is not “enhanced” by chemical substances....

I like the smell of your products but it does not seem as strong as that of other cosmetics I use. Why is that?

The reason is simple: we do not add any synthetic fragrances to our products. Many cosmetics – as well as food products – have made us accustomed to strong fragrances. They may smell nice, but their origin is chemical.

Our approach is the opposite: the fragrances in our products come only from their active natural components, like smelling a flower.

Is it normal for my cream to change colour over time?

The cream oxidises when it comes into contact with the air so its appearance may vary as a result. There is nothing abnormal about this and we prefer to avoid the addition of chemical substances merely to preserve the appearance of a product.

Nevertheless, as our cosmetics are all fresh products with minimal preservatives, it is important to respect the expiry date on the bottle.

Can two face products be applied on top of each other?

Of course, just wait for the first cream to be absorbed into your skin before applying the second.

Can I apply make up after using a face cream?

Yes, Cosmydor face creams are absorbed rapidly and do not leave your skin feeling oily after use.

Can Cosmydor cosmetics be used by men?

At Cosmydor we do not see any difference between genders. We disagree with the marketing that has been imposed on us for decades: men and women do not have fundamentally different skin types. All our products are unisex. We prefer to let you choose the products according to your preferences or skin type, rather than imposing them on you.

Are Cosmydor’s cosmetics halal?

To the best of our understanding, all our products are indeed halal. We do not use alcohol as an ingredient (there are some tiny amounts in a few products, as alcohol is an ingredient of an ingredient like rayolys). Most products are vegan, so they do not contain any animal ingredient. The non-vegan ones only contain (organic) beeswax, which we understand is halal.
Please note this has not (yet) been independently verified.

INFORMATION ABOUT OUR SOAPS

Why don’t all Cosmydor solid soaps look the same?

To start with, they are cut by hand when they come out of the mould.

Then, just as a fine wine does not have the same taste depending on the terroir or the weather conditions, we do not force our products to comply with standardisation requirements.

To give a uniform appearance to their products, industrial cosmetics manufacturers reduce their acidity to zero, breaking down the quality of the oils and altering their quality. At Cosmydor our oils are not broken down – in order to retain all their benefits – and each one evolves slightly differently.

Although this might surprise you, if our solid soaps look different it is because each and every one is unique.

What is the difference between a solid soap and a liquid soap?

Beyond the texture, the difference between a solid soap and a liquid soap has to do with the manufacturing process. A Cosmydor solid soap is cold-processed, while a liquid soap will always be hot-processed. A solid soap contains less water than a liquid soap, which is more diluted.

INFORMATION ABOUT ALL OUR PRODUCTS

Are Cosmydor products really natural and organic?

Yes, all Cosmydor products are made from natural ingredients.

Can pregnant women use all Cosmydor products?

Some products are not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women because of the amount of essential oils they contain. The information is displayed on each product page when applicable.

Are your products hypoallergenic?

Derived from active natural components with minimal modification, our products are by definition less allergenic than products made from synthetic chemicals. Nevertheless, the body may be allergic to certain natural substances. If you have a reaction or are in any doubt, we recommend you stop using the product and consult an allergist or doctor.

How should I store my Cosmydor products?

There are no particular recommendations for our soaps. We recommend you keep our creams away from light and heat.

Can Cosmydor products be used past their expiry date?

It depends on the formula and the ingredients. In most cases the product remains effective, but in rare cases the ingredients may break down and oxidise. You may see a loss of effectiveness or even risks of allergic reactions due to the secondary metabolites produced by the breakdown of the ingredients.

These risks are low but to avoid them we recommend you respect the expiry dates on the bottles.

Why are some products out of stock?

We manufacture artisanally, not in a big factory like most of our competitors: the processes we use are long (e.g. it takes three weeks for our solid soaps to dry) and we produce in small quantities. Sometimes our organic raw materials are themselves out of stock.

We manage our stocks as best we can to avoid this situation. Please contact us if your favourite product is out of stock for longer than expected.

Is it normal to see material deposits in some Cosmydor products?

Yes, this is completely normal. Because our products are natural, the organic deposits you may see is a sign of the naturalness of their components and their artisanal production.

Where can I buy Cosmydor products?

All our products are available on our website www.cosmydor.paris. You can find on our website the list of the shops selling our products.

Where can I get product samples?

We do not send out product samples: they are a waste of packaging, and we hate waste.

COSMYDOR'S COMMITMENTS

Are Cosmydor products certified?

Yes, our products have the organic “Nouvelle Cosmétique” certification and our cold-processed solid soaps benefit from the “Saponification à froid” certification. These provide a guarantee of Cosmydor’s quality and commitment to responsibility.

The “Nouvelle Cosmétique” certification is probably the strictest of all organic certifications.

Are all Cosmydor soaps cold-processed?

Only solid soaps can be cold-processed. This thousand-year-old artisanal technique retains all the characteristics and benefits of the essential oils as well as the glycerine with its moisturising properties.

Are Cosmydor products tested on animals?

No, none of our products are tested on animals. Moreover, this has been banned in Europe since 2004.

Are all Cosmydor products made in France?

Yes, our products are 100% made in France.

Do you use preservatives in your products?

Not for the soaps, it is not necessary.

On the other hand, it is impossible not to use a preservative in a cosmetic that contains water, for reasons of hygiene, safety and minimum use time. So we use as little as possible, naturally-derived alcohols. Our products are completely fresh, with a best before date of 12 monts after productions date for our emulsions.

Do Cosmydor products contain parabens?

Absolutely not. This would be against our philosophy. We cannot list all the bad things we do not include... because there are no harmful chemical components in our products.

Do you use palm oil?

We do not use palm oil in our products.

We are transparent: some of the ingredients we use may come from palm oil, although we are constantly seeking to obtain “palm free” certificates from our suppliers.

Where does Cosmydor stand on eco-responsibility?

This is a critical issue for us: Cosmydor is committed to an ecologically-responsible approach with regard to our active natural components, manufacturing methods and packaging.
