WHAT IS MODERNISM?

Discover or rediscover this movement which inspired some of our collections.

The Modernist movement emerged in the first half of the 20th century. Tired of superfluous decoration, the architects of the time strove to remove embellishments in favour of simpler forms.

Lines were pared down and the use of materials was now determined by their natural qualities, influenced by Scandinavian design philosophy, which was key to Modernism. It was the Danish architect and designer Arne Jacobsen who made his mark as the precursor of organic design. His approach to architecture revolved around simple forms inspired by nature, in which form follows function rather than the reverse.

This now iconic design was defined by its minimalism and elegance.

At that time Cosmydor was influenced by this period and has borrowed its style, so we decided to create some of our solid soap designs as a tribute to Modernism.
